Devonte Taylor is facing multiple murder charges following the shooting that left 37-year-old Tyrone Thomas dead in District Heights, officials announced on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were called to the 3700 block of Donnell Drive to investigate a reported shooting in the area, where they found Thomas outside an apartment building.

He was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Two others were also treated and evaluated for undisclosed injuries after being involved in the shooting. Those gunshot wounds were described as non-life-threatening by the police.

Investigators say that Taylor and Thomas knew each other before the shooting, though a motive has not been established.

Taylor, 34, was charged with first- and second-degree murder charges, as well as other offenses.

He is being held in custody pending his next court appearance.
